Stretch Your Way To Better Sleep

Stretch Your Way To Better Sleep

Did you know that stretching before bed time can improve the quality of your sleep?

Here’s why:
  • Stretching helps you loosen and relax your muscles, and get your body into a peaceful state - essential to you getting the best possible sleep.
  • If you have any niggling aches and pains or stiff joints from perhaps sitting too long at your work desk or standing in one position while cooking, this is a great way to ease those before you go to sleep. Muscle aches don’t make for good sleep, but rather for much tossing and turning.
  • Stretching allows you to relieve your particular muscle problem area. For example gentle hip opener stretches relieve discomfort from sitting at a desk all day, while shoulder opener stretches relieve tension in your shoulders and neck.
  • As you begin to focus on your muscles while you stretch, you inadvertently take your mind off your day’s stresses and worries, increase mindfulness in the moment, and give your brain a chance to slow down and get ready to rejuvenate with some deep sleep.
  • If you add a bit of deep breathing to your evening stretch routine, you can further enhance your body’s relaxation and work towards the ideal breathing rhythm for good sleep.
